NEWPORT LACTATION was created with the needs of new mothers and babies in mind. As families embark upon the greatest adventure of their lives - parenthood - there can be a lot questions and uncertainty about the best way to care for their newborns. The biggest concerns many mothers have is wondering "am I doing this right?" when it comes to breastfeeding their infants.
To help families during this exciting and sometimes stressful time, we offer a variety of services ranging from private prenatal breastfeeding education classes, baby registry consultations, in-home feeding assessments and consultations, and follow up weight checks and phone calls for existing clients.
We also offer classes that help parents navigate best practices for introducing solids and what to expect when returning to work.
Our mission is to help families reach their breastfeeding goals by building a solid educational foundation and fostering healthy breastfeeding practices for mothers and their babies from the start.
We look forward to working with you and your baby during this precious time of life. We celebrate you and your decision to provide your baby with the best nutrition possible and are here to support your efforts.
pre-birth in-home education
This private breastfeeding education class is highly recommended for first time mothers. We suggest that partners or fathers attend as well. We discuss the physiology, anatomy, and hormones associated with breastfeeding in mom and baby, what to expect the first few days and weeks of life, early feeding cues, how to tell if baby is getting enough, and more! As well as addressing any specific concerns you may have. Includes unlimited phone calls and emails for 1 week.
(1 -1.5 hours)
baby registry consultation
Aren't sure if you registered for too much, not enough, or for the right items? We can come to your home or talk over the phone to review your specific registry needs to make sure you get what you need before baby makes their debut!
initial home visit
Tailored to you and your baby's needs, this includes general breastfeeding education, a detailed health history of mom and baby, and an infant feeding assessment with pre and post feeding weight checks. We include a written report to healthcare providers (if needed), personalized plan of care for mom and baby, and a superbill so you can submit our visit for insurance reimbursement (when applicable). Includes unlimited phone calls and emails for 3 days.
(1 -1.5 hours)
follow up home visit
In some cases, return visits can be helpful and are available for a reduced rate. The follow up visit is similar to the initial visit, but less time is spent discussing health history and breastfeeding education. We focus on feeding assessment and following up on your personalized plan of care. Includes unlimited phone calls and emails for 3 days.
follow up weight check
In-home weight checks are available for existing clients and are to track baby's weight gain only. These are great to note baby's progress and to confirm that breastfeeding is going well. Quick feeding assessments may be done during this time but this visit does not include developing a new plan of care for addressing any new or recurring issues. If feeding issues are still present, it's best to schedule a Follow Up Home Visit.
Follow up phone call
Follow up calls may be useful if breastfeeding is going well but there are still a few lingering questions or issues that can be triaged over the phone. This service is available for existing clients only.
in-home introduction to solids class
Transitioning from exclusive breastfeeding to introducing solids can raise a lot of concerns with regards to safe food preparations, allergies, order of foods to introduce, whether or not to introduce water, introducing cups, how much food vs. breastmilk baby needs, and how all of this will impact breastfeeding. The focus of this class is to discuss how breastfeeding will evolve past exclusive breastmilk feedings for infants from age 6 months to 1 year, as well as addressing any questions or concerns parents may have.
preparing to return to work
When the time comes to return to work, some mothers may wonder how they will juggle breastfeeding, pumping and maintaining their milk supply while being separated from their baby. In this class we discuss how to build a "stash" of milk, maintain milk supply, outline the rights of breastfeeding mothers in the workplace, how much milk baby needs per day, and when/how long/where to pump at work. Generally this is covered in our Pre-Birth class, however we discuss more client-specific information in this class. We recommend this class is taken at least two weeks prior to returning to work. Breastfeeding can still "work" while moms work.
*Time per visit is an estimate for scheduling purposes only. Some visits may be shorter or longer depending on your specific needs.

meet the lactation consultant
jaimee brayton, ibclc
Being a mother is the best and most difficult job in the world. Like most new moms, I had a very difficult time breastfeeding my first child. Luckily I sought refuge at my local breastfeeding support groups and made trips to a trusted lactation consultant. After going through a difficult couple of months breastfeeding I quickly got the hang of it all and was so thankful for the much needed support I received. My passion for breastfeeding grew and my desire to support other mothers like myself led me to a career in lactation support.
Through my training in both private practice and the hospital setting as a lactation consultant, I have seen that breastfeeding education before baby is born is critical to breastfeeding success. So much changes with mom, baby and breastfeeding during the first two weeks, that without the proper education and a good grasp of breastfeeding basics things can get difficult pretty quickly.
I have created a variety of services to help support breastfeeding mothers and babies during all that happens within the first year of life. For whatever stage you and your baby find yourselves, I am here to help you meet your breastfeeding goals.
Breastfeeding is a journey and I look forward to supporting you and your baby through this special time.
Jaimee is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) through the International Board of Lactation Examiners, Certificated Lactation Education Counselor (CLEC) through UC San Diego Extension, member of the International Lactation Consultants Association (ILCA), and proud mother of two beautiful little girls.
My baby and I have had a very successful breastfeeding relationship largely due to the expertise and support Jaimee provided from the very beginning. She came to the hospital soon after the birth of my son and offered a personalized approach that helped us find the best breastfeeding techniques for us. She followed up over the course of several months and responded to my concerns with great insight. I feel so fortunate to have had her guidance during my transition into motherhood - she is an invaluable resource!

I didn’t have any idea how hard breastfeeding would be until my son was born. Luckily, I had Jaimee scheduled to visit with us during those first few days back at home. There is no way I would have made it 7 and a half months (I’m proud to say, exclusively breastfed) without her. When I was considering quitting in those first few (painful) weeks she encouraged me to keep trying, and ensured me how great we were doing. I am so thankful for her support. Once we got the hang of everything, it was a breeze! She taught me so many tips and techniques that made breastfeeding so much easier and so much more enjoyable. I asked her SO many questions and she answered all of them! I always recommend her to everyone! Reese, Brandon and I could not be more thankful for you, Jaimee!!!
-Casey, San Clemente
I had such a hard time BF with my first child I hired a lactation consultant and she basically made me give up she made it seem impossible to BF. So when I had my second baby I gave Jaimee a try. What a difference! She is so sweet and funny and she never makes you feel bad or uncomfortable. She gives you tips and tricks that are easy to use and remember. She is so approachable and easy to contact she made the whole experience incredibly easy. I would recommend Jaimee everyday/all-day she's amazing!
-Sarah, Laguna Niguel
Jaimee is an absolute godsend. As a new mom with a preemie I could not have gotten through my first month of breastfeeding without her incredible knowledge, guidance and encouragement. She is so down-to-earth, patient, open, accessible and kind with an amazingly supportive 'can-do' attitude - she created a positive comfort level and confidence in me with something that otherwise could have been totally overwhelming and intimidating. Jaimee genuinely cares about helping mommas and babies succeed together and was always there whenever we needed her, whether we were at wits end or celebrating a milestone!
